As the Director Regional Oncology Scheduling, you will be responsible for leading the organizational transition to centralize the Banner MD Anderson established patient scheduling across all Banner MD Anderson oncology clinics. The goal is to make the process consumer/customer focused, efficient and cohesive across sites

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years in Hospital based Scheduling and Leadership. We are seeking an individual with extensive Change Management and Process Improvement experience for this dynamic team. This role is a hybrid opportunity with your on-site office being located at Banner MD Anderson located in Gilbert Arizona.

Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center Located in Gilbert, Ariz. (the Phoenix Metro area) on the Banner Gateway Campus, the center provides world-class care for oncology patients - both inpatient and outpatient - and has also brought leading oncology programs to the Banner Gateway campus including designation as a Stem Cell Transplant Center of Excellence and comprehensive Head & Neck cancer care. Our capabilities include five linear accelerator vaults, a brachytherapy vault, an advanced diagnostic imaging suite with PET/CT scan, more than 70 infusion bays, a cryopreservation lab and much more. Our inpatient medical oncology unit also incorporates a program that utilizes the electronic surveillance partnership in caring for the patient, where remote nurses have the ability to interact with patients via two-way audio-video to assist the bedside nurse with patient care.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position leads the organizational transition to centralize the Banner MD Anderson established patient scheduling across all Banner MD Anderson oncology clinics. The goal is to make the process consumer/customer focused, efficient and cohesive across sites. This role is responsible for the evaluation of current processes and future design, implementation and monitoring of efficient and consumer focused processes. This position is accountable for metrics and reporting issues that hinder established patient access to care at BDMA clinics. Customer service is a focal point of this leadership role.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Develops a scheduling action plan across Banner MD Anderson Oncology clinical practices. Works closely with clinical operations administration team to build scheduling initiatives by developing human resource requests and justifications, facilitate planning and provider capacity planning, and other supporting processes intended to improve timely access to care.

2. Implements a scheduling action plan across Banner MD Anderson Oncology clinical practices. Builds and supports workflow assessments. Works with Clinical Operations Team and Practice Leaders to identify key access improvement initiatives, responsible parties for implementation and agreed upon timelines for implementation. Escalates barriers related to access to appropriate persons.

3. Monitors scheduling action plans across the Banner MD Anderson Oncology clinical practices for optimization. Works with clinical administration leaders at each location to hold management responsible for scheduling improvement initiatives and commitments, reporting and projections and ongoing analysis of improvement opportunities and threats. Manages through understanding, synthesizing, and innovation around clinical business challenges and opportunities to ensure initiatives are running with optimal efficiency. Holds clinical leaders accountable to responsiveness to change and the demands of the competitive marketplace for Banner MD Anderson clinical services.

4. Develops a strategy towards effective scheduling across BMDA clinical sites to meet patient needs as services expand. Coordinates with multiple site leaders to achieve optimal outcomes for patients as they access care at their chosen facilities.

5. Ensures all stakeholders are kept apprised of patient care scheduling initiatives. Works with the Banner MD Anderson Practice Leadership to analyze provider capacity to support sufficient appointment availability to meet patient care goals.

6. Works with practice and clinical leaders to develop and implement facility expansion plans to accommodate service line growth. Works with the facilities department to secure estimate for any capital costs resulting from facility changes.

7. Identifies and escalates any IT bottlenecks for staff that might contribute to access constraints such as authorization and registration tools or physician EMR interface issues.

8. Works closely with Regional and System teams such as business development and physician relations to develop strategic plans for improved timely access to care. Conducts planning to assess resource and logistical requirements for implementation.

9. This position is self-directed and will make director level budget decisions and customer service-related decisions. This position will communicate regularly with Banner MD Anderson executives, Clinical Administrative Directors, Practice Directors and other relevant stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree level of knowledge in Healthcare Administration, Business or related field and/or equivalent experience and knowledge.

7+ years of experience in the healthcare field in the areas of operations management, financial management, and business/strategic planning.

This position requires the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with all levels of staff and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in this complex environment.

Must have work experience that demonstrates supervisory skills. Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise and provide leadership to a diverse staff and client population. Proven competence in health services administration, clinic operations, budgeting, clinical systems and patient service improvements. Willingness and ability to accept responsibility, make sound judgments, and deal with a variety of personalities and build a team among staff. Flexible, creative and well organized. Flexibility to orient and work at all Banner MD Anderson locations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently, as well as part of a team. Ability to communicate and work directly with patients, physician, staff, administrators, and department heads.

Computer literate in PC skills and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Business or related filed preferred.

Experience leading teams in Patient Scheduling preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
