Job Description

Northern Arizona University's Center for American Indian Economic Development (CAIED) seeks an Community Program Coordinator, Senior to provide administrative, outreach, program management and communication/marketing support.

CAIED is housed in The W. A. Franke College of Business at the Economic Policy Institute. CAIED was established in 1985 by the Arizona Legislature to serves as a unique information and resource center for tribal nations and communities. Our mission is to collaborate with tribal communities/nations to achieve self-sufficiency through community, economic, and business development. Programs and services provided are as following: Seven Generation Money Management Game (7G MM), Financial Literacy Programs and Workshops, Entrepreneurship Training, Business Plan Competition, Student Outreach, Tribal Leadership Summit & Conferences, and Training, Technical Assistance, and Consulting Services.

Administrative - 40%

• Performs a variety of administrative support activities for the program manager and CAIED's consultants, such as: assisting with the monitoring and coordination of CAIED projects; researching and compiling information; processing of administrative paperwork and monitoring of project budget expenditures; editing final reports and/or business plans; responding to general inquiries.
• Monitors and prepares program expenditures to ensure that budget allocations are appropriate and are spent in accordance with NAU policies and procedures. This also includes preparing and processing all CAIED travel in accordance with NAU policies and procedures.
• Prepares periodic reports, financial statements and keeps records on grant activities, progress, or other special reports for the program manager and external funding agencies. This includes maintaining proper accounting records of operational and special budgets, typically utilizing the NAU financial accounting system.

Program Management - 20%

• Coordinates CAIED's activities, events, and programs (Seven Generation Money Management-7G MM, Business Plan Competition, Financial Literacy Projects, and Technical Assistance) with other relevant departments on and off-campus.
• Prepares periodic reports, financial statements and keeps records on grant activities, progress, or other special reports for the program manager and external funding agencies. This includes maintaining proper accounting records of operational and special budgets, typically utilizing the NAU financial accounting system.
• Supervises grant activities, monitors progress, and prepares reports, for both the federal and foundation grants.

Outreach - 20%

• Assists with the development of programs to meet the needs of the 22 federally recognized American Indian tribes in Arizona. This includes developing program work plans, overseeing daily operations and coordinating CAIED trainings, workshops and presentations.

Communication and Marketing - 15%

• Recruits program participants, members and volunteers utilizing appropriate promotional or marketing methods, such as letters, brochures or presentations at meetings or conferences. This includes writing communications and promotional literature for distribution such as brochures and flyers; coordinating development, printing and distribution of materials; updating the CAIED webpage and social media platforms with new information.

Other - 5%

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Applied Indigenous Studies or related field.
• Three years of administrative/coordinator program experience with federally recognized American Indian tribes or relevant experience.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Minimum Qualifications

• Six years of progressively responsible administrative coordinative program experience with federally recognized American Indian tribes.
• Experience working with rural and Tribal Nations.
• Experience working with faculty, staff and students.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

• Knowledge of federally recognized American Indian tribes/nations and basic tribal governance.
• Knowledge of budgeting and basic accounting principles.
• Knowledge of organizational practices and principles
• Program coordination and execution

Skills

• Skill in organizing and coordinating activities, programs, and events and establish priorities.
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Suite and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams, Webinar, etc.).
• Excellent communication skills for effective delivery of programs, training, workshop, etc.
• Program organization and implementation.

Abilities

• Ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written.
• Works independently and in team environment.

Salary

Salary range begins at $51,085. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
