Medical imaging plays a pivotal role in the delivery of excellent patient care at Banner Health. Banner University Medical Center has a team with extensive knowledge spanning across all areas of ultrasound imaging. We have state of the art equipment and ample imaging rooms to support our patients. We are a team with a focus upon patient care and outcomes. Our team is willing to work to ensure that all members capable of meeting our patient’s needs with excellence in delivery. Our team is looking for an experienced Advanced Cardiac Sonographer who is competent in Echo, Vascular and Structural Heart Imaging competencies.

**LOCATION:**

+ Banner University Heart Institute -Phoenix : 755 E. McDowell Rd. 4th Floor – Phoenix, AZ

**SHIFTS:**

+ Full Time/ 40 Hours

+ 4-10s

+ Monday – Friday

+ Possibility of occasional weekend coverage as needed

**DUTIES:**

+ Completion of cardiac imaging ultrasound scans

+ Include but not limited to Echo, Vascular and Structural Heart

+ Outpatient/clinic setting

+ 8-10 Patients per day

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the oversight of the cardiac sonographers, ensuring quality of performance. Functions as the clinical, technical leader/expert in echocardiographic imaging. Accountable for developing and implementing echocardiographic protocols following American Society of Echocardiography and Intersocietal Accreditation Commission standards and guidelines. Instructs, mentors, and evaluates staff in all aspects of echocardiography acquisition. Improves lab quality and efficiency through preparing preliminary echocardiography assessments, performing advanced echocardiographic exams, mentoring fellows, students, residents, and staff. Makes recommendations to Cardiac Administrative leadership regarding equipment and staffing needs. Provides education to Sonographers, students, other departments, agencies, and the public. Leads laboratory accreditation processes and actively participates in the Sonography component of research projects.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Oversees of Heart Clinic echocardiographic services, ensuring quality of performance. Accountable for creation, oversight, and application of scanning protocols and quality measures following the guidelines of ASE or IAC.

2. Functions as the clinical, technical, Advanced Practice expert in Cardiac Sonographic Imaging for the Cardiology or Cardiovascular department. Assess, plan, directs, and evaluates the technical, educations, and clinical professional development programs for assigned area to provide optimal patient care.

3. Performs exams and imaging duties as an Advanced Cardiac Sonographer by providing preliminary clinical findings to the supervising physicians. Also provides valuable and timely preliminary clinical findings to the Cardiologists or Cardiac surgeons.

4. Acts as a clinical resource and mentor to staff. Facilitates the advancement of clinical practice within the echocardiography service line though individual or group educational plans and enhancement or remediation as indicated. Develops programs to educate and train new staff in new sonographic techniques, with focus on the echocardiographic laboratory including staff competencies. Provides echocardiographic related education to Banner Health, cardiac sonography students, other departments, agencies, and the public as needed.

5. Assists department Directors with the budget process through human resource needs identification and makes recommendations regarding acquisition and implementation of new equipment, as well as plans for normal upgrading and replacement of Sonography related equipment.

6. Actively facilitates/coordinates Clinical Research investigation utilizing sonographic principles and imaging. If PhD credentialed, may act as the principle investigator in lieu of a physician.

7. Contributes to the annual performance evaluation process by providing competency assessments/evaluation to the area Supervisors relative to the technical expertise of the individual sonographers. Works closely and collaboratively with department supervisor/manager to align clinical competency and education with expected employee accountability and department compliance for employee retention.

8. Ensures echocardiography functions are within compliance with professional Scope of Practice, accreditation and regulatory standards, Joint Commission and Title 22. Facilitates staff and leadership team communication. Performs other duties as assigned.

Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair.

Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.

Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone.

May require periodic use of personal computer

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires knowledge and experience as typically obtained by the completion of a two-year associates degree in allied health or related field.

Cardiac Credentialing International training program required.

Advanced Cardiac Sonographer certification required in addition to the completion of an accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular Program. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registered AND a minimum of 7 years of Adult Echo experience required. Current BLS certification is required.

Requires knowledge of adult learning theory and teaching methodologies, safety policies and procedures, knowledge of hospital or department policies and functions of other departments, and expert knowledge of related equipment and treatment methods. Must be competent in all routine and advanced echocardiographic procedures, skilled communicator, presenter, facilitator, and systems thinker. Requires prior experience in staff education development and implementation, quality improvement, program development and professional development. Requires demonstrated skills related to management, planning, budgeting, and quality improvement.

Requires the ability and skills to train staff and successfully gather information needed to streamline processing, develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures, plan, organize, and direct the work of others, promoting a teamwork environment that fosters quality and productivity. Demonstrated management skills to include delegating work, follow-up, coaching and administering human resources programs and policies.

Requires excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to remain professional, composed, and analytical with customers and staff under trying circumstances. Requires interpersonal skills including oral communication, diplomacy, and human relation skills to build relationships with hospital staff, regulators and other contacted during the course of business.
