The Northrop Grumman Reliability Analysis Lab of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an exceptionally talented and motivated **Failure Analysis/Principal Failure Analysis Engineer** .

The engineer will work at the Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located outside of Baltimore, Maryland - where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial customers as well as emerging technology programs. Northrop Grumman’s ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide) and providing leading edge technology development in superconducting electronics. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman’s ground-based radars, avionic radars, and space systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Performing cross-sectioning analysis using encapsulated and nonencapsulated techniques for SEM sample prep and operating the argon milling tool for sample polish.

2. Operating FIB-SEMs for a variety of semiconductor devices for failure analysis

3. Troubleshooting failure analysis equipment when issues arise.

4. Performing EDS elemental analysis to characterize semiconductor materials.

5. Preparing and submitting test results to customers.

**This is a 1st shift position.**

**This requisition may be filled as a Failure Analysis Engineer or Principal Failure Analysis Engineer.**

**This position is contingent on the ability to obtain/maintain a US Secret Clearance or higher and contract award**

**Basic Qualifications for** **Failure Analysis** **Engineer:**

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline with 2 years of relevant experience or 0 years with a Masters. Will consider 4 years of applied experience in lieu of degree requirement

• Knowledge of Dual Beam/Plasma FIB-SEMs, regular SEMs, tabletop SEMs, and Argon Mills.

• Knowledge of superconducting microelectronics.

• Experience working in a laboratory environment.

• Must be a US Citizen.

• Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance.

**Basic Qualifications for Principal Failure Analysis Engineer:**

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline with 5 years of relevant experience, 3 years with a Masters, or 1 year with a PhD. Will consider 4 years of applied experience in lieu of degree requirement

• Knowledge of Dual Beam/Plasma FIB-SEMs, regular SEMs, tabletop SEMs, and Argon Mills.

• Knowledge of superconducting microelectronics.

• Experience working in a laboratory environment.

• Must be a US Citizen.

• Must be able to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

• Experience working with GaAs, GaN, and Si semiconductors.

• Experience in a microelectronic wafer fabrication and testing environment.

• Hands-on experience working with superconducting microelectronics.

• Experience working with microscopes and scanning electron microscopes.

• Experience in MATLAB and Python.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

**Salary Range:** $83,300 - $124,900

**Salary Range 2:** $102,400 - $153,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
