Summary About the Position: Serve as an Instructor Operator for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) flight, training operations and as a Training Instructor responsible for instructing military students, DoD, and contractor personnel on procedures for operating UAS through instrument control and MQ-1C Gray Eagle Unmanned Aircraft System. Responsibilities Plan, manage and is responsible for the execution of UAS simulation, ground, and flight operations on a daily basis. Coordinate airspace clearances, flight line operations and maintenance support. Deconflict UAS and communications frequencies relating to the mission. Schedule equipment, instructor pilot and student training for each class. Schedule cadre currency training. Prepare risk assessments and prepare and conducts mission briefings and debriefings. Maintain Aircrew Information Read File. Ensure that all flight training and flight operations forms and records are completed. Serve as the approving authority for air vehicle launch, flight and recovery. Ensure the correct and safe conduct of ground and flight operations through constant monitoring of equipment status and instructor and student activities. Direct early flight recovery or other required emergency actions. Responsible for the successful execution of the Mishap Action Plan in the event of an incident or mishap. Advise the commander on all levels of UAS standardization within the command; assist the commander to develop, implement, evaluate, and manage the units Air Crew Training Program. Present formal instruction to support TRADOC approved Programs of Instruction (POI) through lecture, conference, demonstration, and practical exercises. Monitor student progress, counsel students and grades written and performance examinations. Develop and design course materials to include lesson plans, operation sheets, student handouts, and examinations and assist with the development of POIs. Perform necessary on-site maintenance on classroom systems to ensure their continual availability for student use. Specialized experience is defined as experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: 1) Designing, developing, and/or updating assigned courses of instruction (i.e. Program of Instruction) for the flight and operations of the MQ-1C Gray Eagle Unmanned Aircraft System. 2) Conducting instruction on the operation and remote piloting of the MQ-1C Gray Eagle Unmanned Aircraft System. AND 3) Experience in UAS/UAV flight operations or UAS/UAV simulations instruction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Aviation Operations Instructional Delivery and Learner Development Manages and Organizes Information Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--NO substitution of education for experience is permitted.
