Introduction:
This position will potentially work at either core government office buildings or library branches and provide armed security for these City facilities.

ANTICIPATED SALARY MAY BE UP TO MID-POINT DEPENDING ON CANDIDATE’S EXPERIENCE AND INTERNAL EQUITY, mid-point is $30.13/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
•A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED)equivalent.
•A minimum of one year of experience as an: armed security guard, police officer, or military police officer.
•A minimum of one year of experience in a position involving significant interaction with the public.
•Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.

•Equivalency Statement: Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
•Must successfully obtain and maintain an AZPOST firearm qualification within 30 days of employment.
•Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/service assignment.

Essential Functions:
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

•Monitors security systems, including closed circuit video, fire and security alarms; and access control hardware.
•Oversees vendors when on premises.
•Answers routine inquiries and directs visitors to appropriate areas.
•Prevents unauthorized access to restricted areas.
•Enforces correction of infractions through verbal warning, expels unruly persons, and detains more serious offenders for proper authorities.
•Prepares City Hall for opening of business by unlocking and locking appropriate doors and performs search for suspicious items.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

•Exposure to inclement weather and temperature extremes.
•Stand for extended periods of time.
•Walk or move around facility; climb elevations.
•Bend, stoop, and reach arms above head.
•Lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds.

PLEASE NOTE: Years of experience are based on a work schedule of 2,080 hours per year for full-time positions and 1,040 hours per year for part-time positions, and while work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis, depending upon the job classification, education may not be substituted for work experience.
