Summary:
Operates various conventional and/or numerically controlled machining centers on the most complex and difficult jobs. Works from blueprints, sketches, planning sheets, verbal instructions, and/or engineering, tooling, or equipment information. Contributes to lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs.
This is a 1st shift position from 6am – 230pm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• May run multiple machines efficiently, which may require simultaneous operations. Adapts or improvises tooling to accomplish results where operations require a broad knowledge of production machining technology, operating skills, and shop techniques together with diversified experience.
• Sets up, adjusts, and operates a variety of conventional and/or special purpose CNC Lathe machines to perform the most diversified and difficult production operations on work having close and exact tolerances, several dimensional relationships, unusual contours, dimensional and finish requirements.Experience setting up and operating Okuma CNC lathes is a plus.
• Interprets customer requirements from blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, quality directives, charts, tables, sketches, and verbal instructions.
• Interfaces with engineering to resolve drawing errors, suggest design changes, and solve product/process problems.
• Implements manufacturing methods using standard production machines, materials, and tooling.
• Develops and defines processes with limited documentation, as required.
• Troubleshoots and resolves machining problems.
• Responsible for machining and checking parts to maintain a high level of quality and
efficiency.
• Inspects finished parts for conformance to specifications by visual examination, and utilizes precision measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, micrometers, comparators, and surface plate techniques. Ensures equipment is calibrated in accordance with schedule.
• Routinely maintains equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements.
• Accurately and regularly performs statistical process control (SPC) specific to division requirements.
• Uses advanced shop mathematics, which may include trigonometry, and general knowledge of metal characteristics and other processing requirements.
• Actively contributes to lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Effectively applies lean concepts and tools in work area.
• Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.

Duties/Responsibilities:
+ Must have firsthand knowledge of the manufacturing capabilities in milling, turning, grinding, heat-treating, brazing, and general shop math.
+ Required to work from drawings or prints or to do precision work and will be partly or fully engaged in setting up and operating the following machines and engage in these disciplines: Lathes, CNCM and CNCL, milling machines, precision grinding machines, saws, heat-treatment of tool steels, basic fixture design with little or no engineering assistance, and basic shop math skills that will allow for advanced master programming of CNC controlled machines.
+ Must have knowledge of on the fly fixture design and OEM detail procurement is optimum, even though most of the fixtures will be designed by engineering and the details will be procured to engineering specifications. There will be occasions when a quick turn fixture will need to be produced without engineering assistance.
+ Must have the aptitude to learn, take instructions well and needs to take a natural mechanical and problem-solving ability.
+ Must have knowledge with CNCM tool room machines which make CNC controls
+ Must be able to adapt to semi-conventional machine tools.
+ Mastercam Programing experience is a plus.
Required Skills/Abilities:
+ Three years minimum Job in Aerospace industry.
+ Fixture and tooling design.
+ Geometric tolerance skills, certification of specialized class participation preferred.
+ People skills using good grammar, cordialness, ability to converse with internal customers.
+ Good team leadership skills.
Education and Experience:
+ 2-6 minimum machine shop experience, Journeyman class “A” credential is preferred.

The Machinist II will perform machining tasks (Grinding, Turning, Milling) to tight tolerance, minimize scrap and rework, perform PMs on a regular basis, lead machine safety and workplace compliance requirements, maintain an inventory of tooling and fixtures, work effectively with vendors in ordering and acquiring tooling.
This role is based at our facility in Tucson, AZ. The 3rd shift schedule is 9:00 PM - 5:30 AM.
We are offering a $2,000 Sign-on Bonus (paid after completing 30 days of employment).
You will have the opportunity to :
+ Operate multiple CNC and conventional machines and/or equipment
+ Evaluate equipment needs and ensure suitable replacement parts are available
+ Make process suggestions for programming new and existing product
+ Prioritize production orders or processing requirements and respond accordingly
+ Setup, run, inspect, clean orders, as needed
+ Train other employees on proper equipment operation and/or setup
REQUIREMENTS :
+ HS Diploma or GED
+ NIMS/Journeyman/Trade School Certification preferred
+ 4 or more years of experience with CNC and Conventional machines and equipment
+ Knowledge of product quality concepts, ISO principles, and GD&T
+ Intermediate computer skills, including SAP or similar ERP systems and MS Office
+ Working knowledge of Quality Assurance principles and Metrology
+ This position is approximately 60% running multiple machines and 40% setups and support of operators
